Case Study
How Tru-Duct gets paid 5 to 20 days earlier and gets back 3 hours per week
SHEET METAL
OCEANSIDE, CA
AR & LIEN RELEASES
Tru-Duct is a family owned and operated sheet metal fabricator located in Oceanside, CA that works directly with mechanical contractors. Since its founding in 2001, Tru-Duct has become one of the largest sheet metal fabricators in Southern California.
As the Office Manager of the team, Zac Hays juggles many different hats, Accounts Receivable (AR) being one of them.
Life before Dill
Juggling many different hats can be difficult. Before Dill, Zac spent a lot of time on AR. Fielding questions about invoices and statements from contractors, sending payment reminders, processing payments and making sure they’re reconciled correctly, and reviewing lien releases – there was a lot of manual work involved. Cash flow is king in the industry, and there was a desire to improve DSO (Day Sales Outstanding) and find ways to accelerate cash flow to potentially fuel growth.
When Tru-Duct came across Dill, there was an interest in cutting down manual AR work (so that Zac could spend that time on other parts of the business like fabrication and operations), getting paid quicker and improving cash flow, and providing a better contractor experience.
“I appreciate Dill going above and beyond what was asked of them to help streamline multiple parts of our business”

After using Dill
Today, Zac uses Dill for its self-service portal as well as AR and lien release automation features.
Since using Dill, cash flow has accelerated. For contractors paying through Dill, they are now paying 5 to 20 days earlier. And this has been a direct result of the ease of access to invoices and statements, the ease of payment through the self-service portal, and automated payment reminders through Dill.
Since using Dill, Zac now gets at least 3 hours each week back to focus on the fabrication and operations side of the business. Previously, it could take him 2-5 hours each week to manually run statements, process payments and reconcile, and review lien releases. Dill has essentially cut down all that time, as this is no longer something that he has to do – statements are now fully automated through Dill on a monthly basis, payments auto-reconciled into Quickbooks with full clarity, and lien releases made easier to process with invoices directly pulled from Quickbooks.
Since using Dill, Tru-Duct’s contractors have enjoyed the customer service. Many have commented on the ease of access to invoice and statement PDFs at their own will, as well as the ease of payment – they have the flexibility to choose which invoices they want to pay, and do not need to re-enter their payment details each time. Questions are answered right at their hands. It is simply more convenient. Adopting Dill was another way Tru-Duct has further differentiated and leveled up in customer service.
